About
School of Brickology - Summer School is a self-paced, free program designed to consolidate and advance the skills of bricklayers through hands-on projects, productivity techniques, and repair methods. This course focuses on balancing speed with quality, mastering repairs and repointing, and tackling a variety of garden and landscaping projects. Participants will learn how to measure productivity, apply speed-laying tips, and avoid common mistakes that occur when rushing. The program covers essential repair skills, including replacing damaged bricks, repairing small wall sections, and mastering repointing techniques such as bucket handle, flush, and weather struck joints. Garden and landscaping modules guide learners through building garden walls, curved walls, brick edging, raised planters, steps, and a full BBQ project, providing practical experience in outdoor brickwork. Troubleshooting lessons help participants identify and fix crooked walls, mortar joint errors, and alignment issues, while also highlighting common pitfalls in summer projects. The course reinforces industry standards and safety, with refreshers on NHBC tolerances, LABC checks, British Standards, and best practices for outdoor work. Practice challenges and mini projects encourage learners to apply their skills in real-world scenarios, culminating in a practical test and the opportunity to earn the Project Pioneer badge. The program concludes with quizzes, reflection, and guidance on building a portfolio, preparing participants for progression to the Undergraduate Junior level.
